Why Invest In Corporate Wellness Programs
Corporate wellness programs are no longer just a buzzword.
Successful managers, regardless of their industry, must find the balance between pushing employees to meet the company’s goals without micromanaging or otherwise alienating them. This is often easier said than done.
The question then comes down to what can be controlled with respect to employee productivity?
Managers can control:
- setting expectations
- hiring for our culture
- onboarding
- developing skills
- recognizing and rewarding achievements
- providing valuable feedback
- taking care of our employee’s health
The first six bulleted points are specific to your company, and you likely have processes and policies in place to address these.
Employee health however is my bailiwick.
It’s no secret that healthy employees are happy employees, and happy employees are more productive. Meta-analysis of studies has shown that healthy people are happier, and happy people are 12 – 20% more productive at work.
This can translate to thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to your company’s bottom line.
- Lower employee turnover
- Less recruitment and training of new employees
- Higher levels of engagement
- Higher levels of motivation
- Stronger feelings of control
Helping employees be healthy is more than negotiating a discounted gym membership or giving them gift cards for walking a certain number of steps daily. Biggest Loser-type competitions often promote unhealthy and dangerous eating habits, and are rarely effective in the long-term.
In contrast, corporate wellness programs address the big picture. Encouraging employees in their quest to be healthy is giving them the tools and the supportive environment to create a healthy lifestyle for them and their families. Being healthy isn’t inclusive of being at home, and neither does it happen only in the office.
A healthy lifestyle combines work, home, and everything in between, day after day, month after month, year after year.
My Online Fitness and Nutrition programs are designed to be easy-to-follow and effective solutions at helping your employees become healthy and stay healthy.
