Getting A Woman to Bulk Up

‘A myth pervades society – that getting a woman to bulk up is as easy as lifting heavy weights. This is not true!

Unless a woman is taking steroids or performance enhancing drugs, she WILL NOT bulk up.  I repeat, she will not bulk up.

woman bodybuilder and fit woman

She won’t look like Arnold Schwarzenegger.  She won’t grow facial hair.  She won’t grow hair on her chest.  Her voice won’t get lower.  None of this will happen. I repeat again, she will not bulk up.

The scientific research behind the use of steroids and performance enhancing drugs is well-supported.   The high level explanation is that women don’t have nearly enough testosterone to pack on muscle mass.  Normal testosterone levels in men are 200 – 1200 ng/dl and 15 – 70 ng/dl in women.  As you can see, men’s testosterone levels are significantly higher than women’s.  A man at the low end of his range still has more than twice the amount of testosterone as a woman at the high end of hers.  Looking at the median levels, men are at 700 and women at 43.  This calculates to men having more than 16 times the amount of testosterone of women!

However, if a woman wants to build muscle, she can do it by consistently logging the right types of training, following a tightly structured nutrition program, and supplementing in a proper and legal way.

This reinforces the well-known fact that strength training is an integral part of an effective fitness program for women and men.  Here are some of its many benefits:
•    improves bone density
•    improves blood circulation
•    improves quality of sleep
•    improves balance
•    increases muscle strength and endurance
•    increases metabolism which helps you to burn more calories and lose weight
•    helps stave off depression
•    assists in recovery from injury
•    slows the aging process
•    improves self-esteem and self-image

So get out there and move some iron – your body and mind will thank you for it!
