Tell us about yourself. I’m a mom of 3 boys, ages 9, 7, and 2. I work part-time evenings and weekends, and stay home with my 2 year old while my older boys are in school.

How long have we worked together? I started working with Sharon about 6 months ago when I began taking her Cross Training Circuit classes through the park district. I had lost some weight on my own and had hit a plateau. I needed something new to get me over that hump.  Not long after trying Cross Training Circuits, I started on one of her Meal Plans and signed up for Metabolic Explosion Training classes.

What did you expect when you started on each? I expected to be sore and constantly hungry. Food had always been such a big part of my life, a source of comfort. I was afraid to give that up. I didn’t want to be bored with my meals and I didn’t want to have to make separate meals for my family.  While I was sore at first (and still do get sore on occasion),  the Meal Plan was more than enough food to keep me satisfied and there’s quite a bit of variety included. I do end up having to cook two different meals some nights but I’ve learned how to plan ahead and meal prep in advance.  And I now even enjoy foods I never did before like salmon, oatmeal, and wheat germ.

How do you feel now? Amazing! I have so much more energy and I can keep up with my busy boys. I no longer have knee or back pain and I sleep much better at night.

How has your body changed? I went from a size 20 to an 8/10. I can fit my entire body in one leg of my old jeans. It’s a good feeling, but also makes me sad that I ever let it get to that point.  I can see muscles in my arms and legs and I have a waist now! My face used to look puffy and I had a double chin (which is gone now). I’ve gone down in bra size as well and I’m not sad about it!

What non-scale victories have you experienced? I completed my second ever 5k and shaved 10 minutes off of my time.

Are you stronger? Much stronger! I can lift more than I ever thought I could, and carrying around a 30 lb. 2 year old is much less of a struggle these days. I can run faster and longer than I used to. Running at all is an accomplishment!

How has your health improved? A little over a year ago, I was prediabetic and had hard to control asthma. My A1C number is now in the normal range and my asthma is much more manageable. I also have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which can cause a lot of health issues and since losing weight, most of my symptoms have disappeared.

What are your goals? My main goal is to stay on the path I’ve been on for the last year – healthy eating and regular exercise. In the past, I’ve been able to lose weight but after the initial excitement of the first 10-20 lbs., I lost that momentum and slid right back to where I was. Or I wouldn’t see results fast enough and would give up. I’m not giving up this time. If I can lose another 20 lbs. and keep it off, then I’ll be happy. I’d also like to be able to do regular push ups, not those on my knees.

If you have tried fitness and nutrition plans in the past, what did you try? Why didn’t they work? How is this different? I tried Weight Watchers and counting points was annoying. I did different trendy workout videos at home but it’s different than someone standing in front of you, correcting your form and motivating you. It also helps that in Cross Training Circuits and MET classes you have other participants there doing the same things you are, struggling and succeeding right along with you. And they cheer you on too. That atmosphere is so motivating to me.

What is the best part about working with Sharon? Sharon is great at what she does. She’s very knowledgeable about nutrition and fitness and I feel like she’s always bringing new things to her classes. She is supportive and answers any questions you might have but she also holds you accountable which is exactly what I need in a fitness coach.

What is the worst part about working with Sharon? If I say it, she’ll make me do extra burpees next week. Kidding, kidding.

What would you tell others who are hesitant to start?​ Just take the plunge. You won’t regret it and it will only make you a better version of yourself. Put it off until later and later may never come. I wish I had started sooner.
