Energy Drinks? Bleh

Obesity is running rampant in the U.S.  Once cause is the amount of sugar Americans drink. To this I say “Energy Drinks? Bleh!”

Energy Drinks are not healthy. Most juices are laden with sugar.

Did you know Vitamin Water has 13 grams of sugar in one serving?  13 grams of sugar is a little more than 3 teaspoons. With 2.5 servings in a bottle of Vitamin Water, this means it has 32 grams of sugar.  They have basically taken a 20 oz bottle, scooped 8 teaspoons of sugar into it, and added water.

Amp Energy Elevate has 29 grams of sugar in one 8 oz serving. In a 16 oz can, you get almost 60 grams of sugar.  No wonder you have energy.  You’ve taken in more sugar than most candy bars.

Ditto for Rockstar.  62 grams of sugar in one can.

Tropicana Cranberry Juice – 32 grams of sugar in every 8 ounces.

Minute Maid Orange Juice – 24 grams of sugar in every 8 ounces. In a 16 oz bottle, there are 12 teaspoons of sugar.

Gatorade G Series – 21 grams of sugar in a 12 oz serving, and 2.5 servings per container.  This is 52 grams of sugar or 13 teaspoons of sugar.

Gatorade Recovery Protein Shake – 20 grams of sugar and 270 calories.

Sodas are just as bad.  Coca Cola has 29 grams of sugar in every 8 ounces.

See what I’m talking about now?

Instead of buying into the hype, drink water to rehydrate and add a recovery drink with Glutamine and Branch Chain Amino Acids to help your muscles recover and get ready for your next exercise session.  My recommendation is Glutamine.  No sugar. No caffeine. No fillers. No preservatives.  Simply mix it with water.
